Jobs are often one-time projects, but the Fiverr system also offers functionality for multiple “milestone” submissions. This means that a freelancer could effectively use Fiverr to create prepayment services, although this is not as common.

There are some jobs you can buy on Fiverr that are relatively bad for business, we’ll talk about that later.

My number one rule to follow to be successful on this platform is to come up with a strategy.

Specifically, you must have a clear idea of what success looks like and how to get there. You should also know what failure looks like and how to get there.

In general, you should use Fiverr to help you complete tasks – not define your entire strategy. In this way, you can effectively judge success when your order is completed.

But even knowing what it is you want, it can be difficult to communicate effectively if you don’t have a lot of experience when it comes to delegating.

It is very useful to arrive knowing how and why to delegate. As a main rule, consider delegating tasks that:

• Time-consuming: like data entry
• They are of low value: how to schedule content on social networks
• Occasional / Special Needs: Like Tax Preparation.

Finding out how to use Fiverr is especially helpful when it comes to the first two categories. As an entrepreneur, you may be tempted to keep busy to maintain your “busy” mentality.

But being busy is not a badge of honor.

Answer each question so there is no doubt about what you want when the seller delivers the order.
• Provide resources that look the way you want the project to look. You may refer to a competitor who has done very well (with the stipulation that you don’t want to copy them directly!) Or another example of a project that you love. Either way, you are giving your seller a basic expectation about the quality of the final delivery.
• Encourage questions. Fiverr sellers do the best they can with the information you provide. Make it easier for them to deliver what you want through dialogue throughout the job. If you don’t ask if they have questions, the seller may hesitate to ask, lest they bother you.

If working with a Fiverr seller means giving you access to sensitive account information, use password management tools like 1Password or LastPass to manage access. By encrypting login information and setting access permissions, you can easily cut off the Fiverr vendor if you suspect their intentions are wrong.

What Shouldn’t Be Outsourced on Fiverr?

We have said before, but it is better to repeat: use Fiverr to outsource tasks, not strategies.

In addition to this advice, here are some recommendations for what not to outsource on Fiverr and job categories to avoid entirely:

SEO Tasks: Unfortunately, when it comes to SEO, Fiverr doesn’t have the best reputation. You definitely want to avoid jobs that promise excellent first page rankings on Google or link building. In these situations, sellers justify their low prices with black hat tactics (less ethical tactics). These black hat tactics may work in the short term, but they will cost you dearly along the way and it will be very annoying to try to fix in the future. Buying SEO content is OK, just make sure they pass the Copyscape test before accepting the job.

• Buying followers on social networks: Without counting Fiverr, buying followers is practically buying bots. Not only does this look very bad, as it is very easy for anyone to investigate their followers – it is also very likely that it is a violation of the terms of service on the platform where they are using these followers. This could cause your account to be closed!
• (Probably) anything that only costs $5: Even though there are still plenty of jobs starting at $ 5, it’s fair to assume it’s an attempt by marketers to stay competitive. Although people in low-spending countries may justify these prices, this creates a price war. Instead of encouraging ridiculous rock-bottom prices, use your good money and buy the job that has a higher price.
• Something you need for the next day: Unless you are dealing with a super responsive seller who offers fast delivery for an extra cost. If they don’t seem to have this process built in, they likely won’t deliver quality work in such a short amount of time.
• Non-native English text: It will take more time and money to make it sound good. It just isn’t worth it.

To be fair, Fiverr makes changes to larger job categories when necessary.

In 2017, they discontinued product testimonial videos and replaced it with the Video Spokesperson category. This was an effort to appease the FTC, an organization known for its lack of appreciation for undisclosed payment relationships between a brand and the person giving the testimony.

Of course, it can be said that Fiverr is not afraid to operate at the limit of what could be considered ethical, as they already do with some of the aforementioned job categories (notably SEO jobs and buying social media followers).

How to Find Good Sellers & Jobs on Fiverr?

Let’s start with the most important things about how to use Fiverr. Whether or not you are an experienced buyer, the following tips can help you identify good jobs and good sellers who can meet your expectations.

But Fiverr also has its own seller rating system based on multiple factors, such as:

• Fast communication
• Give on time
• Buyers rating

Based on these (and other) factors, Fiverr sellers are categorized in terms of several ascending levels:

• Seller
• Vendor Level 1
• Vendor Level 2
• High-end seller

“Vendor” is used to describe those who are new to Fiverr, while Level 1 and Level 2 can be unlocked by successfully completing various orders (among other requirements). High-end vendors are selected by Fiverr based on very strict factors that relate to customer communication and satisfaction. It is not easy to get from one level to another, so those with Level 1 or above are the people who take their work with Fiverr very seriously.

A marketer can also earn the distinction of “Pro” without the need to deal with the other levels (and their requirements), based on their success outside of Fiverr.

Regardless of how long you’ve been using Fiverr, chances are you’ve already had a bad experience with the platform.

This is not to say that it is Fiverr’s fault – you will find the same problems on almost any other platform that makes it easy to connect between a buyer and a seller. It’s just hard to know for sure what your work will be like with this person, until you give them a push and work with them.

But we have good news for you: as a buyer, you are Fiverr’s priority. I say this with a bit of restraint for the times I’ve dealt with unreasonable salespeople and Fiverr immediately took their side. Now that I’m a Pro seller, I get a little more confidence (and more equitable support) but I still have to put up with my dose of buyer abuse on the platform.

So here’s my advice: don’t be a bad buyer who hurts the person who works for you for silly reasons. With that being said, stick with what you need and if you did the best job possible to itemize your needs up front and the seller just didn’t deliver, in most cases you will get a refund if they can’t come to an agreement.
