Fiverr gets a bad rap – especially coming from freelancers. This platform has had a negative association with this group because they feel the pressure to create services that start from $5. To be sure, a lot has changed since the initial creation of this market – including the need for a price starting at $5.
Even if you are not looking for help as a business, you can use Fiverr to get some interesting and even a little strange services, just for fun. Like Groupon, the platform is a search engine for things you probably didn’t know you wanted. This can be a double-edged sword, because you could get addicted to shopping!
We have created win-win situations for ourselves, for people who buy my services, and for those who I buy from. CodeinWP shares its own list of tips for buying Fiverr services, but I say there is much more to say.
Let’s start this discussion on how to use Fiverr against your current possible misperception of it.
The first and most important thing is that it is not mandatory to offer services from $5 on Fiverr. For freelancers, this means you won’t have to break your services down into small chunks to make it worth your while – you can create packages that are worth hundreds of dollars (or more!).
In an effort to attract more expert freelancers to the platform, Fiverr recently announced a new version of its marketplace: Fiverr Pro. Unlike the Fiverr sellers in the main market version, the sellers on Fiverr Pro are individually vetted by employees. by Fiverr. The final result? On-demand access with an impeccable reputation with brands you probably know.
The advantages of using Fiverr
And if you’re still not convinced that Fiverr cares about its freelancers, consider your latest AND CO acquisition.
AND CO is an all-in-one business management tool for freelancers including functionality to create contracts, track time and manage expenses. Since Fiverr’s acquisition of AND CO, freelancers have unlimited free access to tools that were previously blocked by a monthly membership.
Free tools freelancers
And you don’t even have to be a Fiverr seller (or buyer) to use these tools – they’re free for everyone.
Yes, there are still Fiverr offers at the price of $5. Many of these low-cost jobs are attributed to vendors from other areas of the world, with much lower expenses.
You may have ethical reasons with the idea of outsourcing work, to the detriment of the prosperity of your own country, I see it as an opportunity to help people around the world to have equal access to employment. Some of my favorite Fiverr vendors talk about how important Fiverr is to them as it gives them the money to put food on the table for their family – that’s so worth it to me.
What to Outsource on Fiverr?
Now let’s talk about how to use Fiverr: an introduction to the economics of these jobs. The Fiverr Marketplace offers a wide variety of services, called as “jobs.”
Jobs are often one-time projects, but the Fiverr system also offers functionality for multiple “milestone” submissions. This means that a freelancer could effectively use Fiverr to create prepayment services, although this is not as common.
There are some jobs you can buy on Fiverr that are relatively bad for business, we’ll talk about that later.
On a more positive note, here are the bigger categories that are typically a bargain on Fiverr:
Graphic Design (I work with a designer to make t-shirt designs for my ecommerce business.)
Digital Marketing (I hired a Fiverr vendor to help me set up some advanced features in MailChimp.)
Video Editing / Production
Write / proofread
Minimalist logo design (There are some talented logo designers on Fiverr if you look closely. Check out how Woorkup got an outsourced logo for his blog.)
Fiverr’s Public Relations team shares that the following jobs are on the rise (already in high demand since before this) entering the First Quarter of 2018 from Q4 of 2017:

How to Delegate on Fiverr?
My number one rule to follow to be successful on this platform is to come up with a strategy.
Specifically, you must have a clear idea of what success looks like and how to get there. You should also know what failure looks like and how to get there.
In general, you should use Fiverr to help you complete tasks – not define your entire strategy. In this way, you can effectively judge success when your order is completed.
But even knowing what it is you want, it can be difficult to communicate effectively if you don’t have a lot of experience when it comes to delegating.
It is very useful to arrive knowing how and why to delegate. As a main rule, consider delegating tasks that:
Time-consuming: like data entry
They are of low value: how to schedule content on social networks
Occasional / Special Needs: Like Tax Preparation.
Finding out how to use Fiverr is especially helpful when it comes to the first two categories. As an entrepreneur, you may be tempted to keep busy to maintain your “busy” mentality.
But being busy is not a badge of honor.
With a little introspection, you will likely find tasks that you could have delegated to someone without hurting your profitability. After all, good delegation frees up time and energy to do more things that you do enjoy doing (and get paid for!). Tapping into that topic, outsourcing time-consuming or low-value tasks on Fiverr makes it easier to focus on things that only YOU can do.
Keep this delegation framework in mind when deciding what tasks you can outsource with Fiverr – especially when it comes to determining which task is not good for outsourcing.
How to use Fiverr? Communication with the seller
As a general rule of thumb, be sure to contact the seller before placing an order, especially if what you want is a bit out of the box (or different than your basic package options).
Once you’ve decided on the context of the order, there are a few additional steps you need to take to obtain an ideal final product:
Fill all the requirements of the order. Don’t be tempted to skip this step, even if you are already in dialogue with the seller. Repeat everything in order so it’s easy to refer to your salesperson as they complete the job for you. Answer each question so there is no doubt about what you want when the seller delivers the order.
Provide resources that look the way you want the project to look. You may refer to a competitor who has done very well (with the stipulation that you don’t want to copy them directly!) Or another example of a project that you love. Either way, you are giving your seller a basic expectation about the quality of the final delivery.
Encourage questions. Fiverr sellers do the best they can with the information you provide. Make it easier for them to deliver what you want through dialogue throughout the job. If you don’t ask if they have questions, the seller may hesitate to ask, lest they bother you.
If working with a Fiverr seller means giving you access to sensitive account information, use password management tools like 1Password or LastPass to manage access. By encrypting login information and setting access permissions, you can easily cut off the Fiverr vendor if you suspect their intentions are wrong.
What Shouldn’t Be Outsourced on Fiverr?
We have said before, but it is better to repeat: use Fiverr to outsource tasks, not strategies.
In addition to this advice, here are some recommendations for what not to outsource on Fiverr and job categories to avoid entirely:
SEO Tasks: Unfortunately, when it comes to SEO, Fiverr doesn’t have the best reputation. You definitely want to avoid jobs that promise excellent first page rankings on Google or link building. In these situations, sellers justify their low prices with black hat tactics (less ethical tactics). These black hat tactics may work in the short term, but they will cost you dearly along the way and it will be very annoying to try to fix in the future. Buying SEO content is OK, just make sure they pass the Copyscape test before accepting the job.
SEO jobs on Fiverr
Buying followers on social networks: Without counting Fiverr, buying followers is practically buying bots. Not only does this look very bad, as it is very easy for anyone to investigate their followers – it is also very likely that it is a violation of the terms of service on the platform where they are using these followers. This could cause your account to be closed!
(Probably) anything that only costs $5: Even though there are still plenty of jobs starting at $ 5, it’s fair to assume it’s an attempt by marketers to stay competitive. Although people in low-spending countries may justify these prices, this creates a price war. Instead of encouraging ridiculous rock-bottom prices, use your good money and buy the job that has a higher price.
Something you need for the next day: Unless you are dealing with a super responsive seller who offers fast delivery for an extra cost. If they don’t seem to have this process built in, they likely won’t deliver quality work in such a short amount of time.
Non-native English text: It will take more time and money to make it sound good. It just isn’t worth it.
To be fair, Fiverr makes changes to larger job categories when necessary.
In 2017, they discontinued product testimonial videos and replaced it with the Video Spokesperson category. This was an effort to appease the FTC, an organization known for its lack of appreciation for undisclosed payment relationships between a brand and the person giving the testimony.
Of course, it can be said that Fiverr is not afraid to operate at the limit of what could be considered ethical, as they already do with some of the aforementioned job categories (notably SEO jobs and buying social media followers).
How to Find Good Sellers & Jobs on Fiverr?
Let’s start with the most important things about how to use Fiverr. Whether or not you are an experienced buyer, the following tips can help you identify good jobs and good sellers who can meet your expectations.
Check Ratings and Reviews
After each delivery, buyers can leave a star rating and a review on the delivery. A high volume of positive ratings and reviews is a great indicator that you are dealing with someone you trust.

But Fiverr also has its own seller rating system based on multiple factors, such as:
Give on time
Based on these (and other) factors, Fiverr sellers are categorized in terms of several ascending levels:
Vendor Level 1
Vendor Level 2
“Vendor” is used to describe those who are new to Fiverr, while Level 1 and Level 2 can be unlocked by successfully completing various orders (among other requirements). High-end vendors are selected by Fiverr based on very strict factors that relate to customer communication and satisfaction. It is not easy to get from one level to another, so those with Level 1 or above are the people who take their work with Fiverr very seriously.
A marketer can also earn the distinction of “Pro” without the need to deal with the other levels (and their requirements), based on their success outside of Fiverr.
How to find good sellers and jobs on Fiverr
“Audition” for Multiple Fiverr Vendors for Ongoing Needs.
If you want to learn how to use Fiverr for ongoing needs in certain categories of service, it makes sense to first try different vendors offering similar jobs. Think of it as an investment in the future – it will cost you a little up front, but it will help you find the perfect person for the job.
Work With One Person Consistently
As with any other service you purchase from a freelancer or company, you will get improvements in the process as long as you continue to work together. If you treat your relationship with Fiverr sellers as a long-term commitment, they will take your projects more seriously than buyers looking for a single job.
Request a Custom Job
In addition to the basic jobs by salespeople, you can also order custom jobs. If you don’t have a particular salesperson in mind – for example when you can’t find the specific job you’re looking for – you can also apply for a job that anyone in the market can fill in.

How to Identify Poor Quality Jobs on Fiverr?
Regardless of how long you’ve been using Fiverr, chances are you’ve already had a bad experience with the platform.
This is not to say that it is Fiverr’s fault – you will find the same problems on almost any other platform that makes it easy to connect between a buyer and a seller. It’s just hard to know for sure what your work will be like with this person, until you give them a push and work with them.
But we have good news for you: as a buyer, you are Fiverr’s priority. I say this with a bit of restraint for the times I’ve dealt with unreasonable salespeople and Fiverr immediately took their side. Now that I’m a Pro seller, I get a little more confidence (and more equitable support) but I still have to put up with my dose of buyer abuse on the platform.
So here’s my advice: don’t be a bad buyer who hurts the person who works for you for silly reasons. With that being said, stick with what you need and if you did the best job possible to itemize your needs up front and the seller just didn’t deliver, in most cases you will get a refund if they can’t come to an agreement.
Two of the easiest ways to identify poor quality work are:
Low / Low Qualification Jobs: Unless you’re dealing with a less experienced salesperson who is launching a new service – check out their profile to find out.
A seller with a low rating: The best sellers on Fiverr struggle a lot to climb the ranks.
